November 1 marks the beginning of CO Awareness Month, a critical time to raise awareness about the invisible, odorless threat that is carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. At NCOAA, we dedicate ourselves to ensuring that every family, school, and business knows about the dangers of carbon monoxide and how to protect themselves, their loved ones, and everyone they do business with.
Why CO Awareness Matters
Every year in the United States, carbon monoxide poisoning is responsible for 100,000 emergency room visits, 14,000 hospitalizations, and over 1,200 deaths. Because CO is colorless and odorless, it’s often referred to as the silent killer. It can seep into homes and buildings undetected, coming from gas tools and appliances including faulty furnaces, water heaters, or even portable generators used during power outages. Unfortunately, the effects are swift and often deadly.
At NCOAA, our mission is to bring carbon monoxide safety into the spotlight, creating a world where no one has to fear the air they breathe. CO Awareness Month gives us an opportunity to drive this message home, and we need your help to do it.
What NCOAA Is Doing During CO Awareness Month
This year, NCOAA launched a CO Awareness Month campaign designed to educate, empower, and engage communities across the country.
We will be spreading awareness on social media daily throughout the month of November, and will share information including carbon monoxide safety tips, sources of carbon monoxide, symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, and what to do when you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning. Follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
NCOAA will also be sending emails to our supporters throughout the month, and we encourage you to share these emails with your friends, family, and colleagues. Each email will contain valuable information about carbon monoxide safety, from prevention tips to ways to get involved in our campaign.
We will also be working with our partners to help us promote carbon monoxide safety on a larger scale. Together with organizations, businesses, and advocates, we’re ensuring that carbon monoxide safety becomes a priority across the country. With their support, we’re reaching more communities, installing more CO alarms, and sharing critical safety information with more people.
We invite you to get involved too. You can make a life-saving impact. Learn more here.
How You Can Get Involved
We need your voice, your passion, and your commitment. Here’s how you can join the fight:
Share our Posts & Emails – Use our toolkit to post educational content on your social media. Help us flood the internet with information that will save lives. The toolkit also has emails you can use to communicate the importance of CO Safety with your family, friends, colleagues, and customers. Check out the toolkit here.
Donate – Your donations fuel our life-saving programs. And during CO Awareness Month, they will go even further. Thanks to our matching sponsors, DD-Scientific and IPEX, donations up to a total of $5,000 will be matched starting on November 1 through GivingTuesday on December 3. Donate here.
Talk to Your Loved Ones – One conversation could be enough to inspire someone to install a CO alarm in their home. Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to take action today.
Together, We Can Give A Voice To The Silent Killer
CO Awareness Month is our moment to rally together, educate our communities, and take meaningful action against a preventable threat. At NCOAA, we believe that no one should suffer from the devastating effects of carbon monoxide poisoning, and with your help, we can continue to work toward a future where that’s the reality.
